Numerous travel companies offer trips to Egypt, and it also is possible to arrange independent travel. Do your homework before you decide whether you would prefer traveling alone or with a group. Travelers who fly Egypt Air will depart from JFK in New York City for a nine-hour non-stop flight to Cairo. The return flight is slightly longer. Those flying British Air, Lufthansa and other European-based airlines will make one stop in Europe and connect to Cairo.

Independent travelers will do well to purchase a Lonely Planet Guide and follow it closely. All travelers will benefit by the fact that English is commonly spoken in Egypt, at least in the major tourist areas. VISA and Master Card are accepted in many shops. You will need cash - the Egyptian pound - when shopping at some bazaar sites.
